Taylor Swift’s ‘Lavender Haze’ music video is finally here. After a wait that felt like it lasted an eternity (OK it was 3 months), the third and final music video from her tenth studio album Midnights has been released.

‘Lavender Haze’ follows previous visual projects which act as mini movies – ‘Bejeweled’, a Cinderella fairytale with a burlesque twist and ‘Anti-Hero’, which sees Taylor comedically dive into her deepest fears and insecurities whilst battling with her alter-ego self.

Midnights is yet another global smash for Taylor, with the success of the lead single ‘Anti-Hero’ being the main reason Swifties suspect the ‘Lavender Haze’ video was held back for so long. ‘Anti-Hero’ is officially Taylor’s longest-running No.1 hit with 8 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, beating ‘Blank Space”s previous record of 7 weeks.

‘Lavender Haze’ is the opening track on Midnights, kicking the record off with a self-confident bop that is sonically similar to Lover‘s ‘I Think He Knows’. With its synth bass and killer drum beat, this down-tempo dance rhythm definitely brings the vibes.

After the album release, Taylor took to Instagram to explain the meaning behind the song – revealing that she came across the phrase ‘Lavender Haze’ while watching Mad Men and that it’s a common phrase used in the ’50s where they would describe being in love.

“I guess theoretically, when you’re in the lavender haze, you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud,” she continued. “I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just ‘public figures,’ because we live in the era of social media. If the world finds out that you’re in love with somebody, they’re going to weigh in on it.”

“Like, my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumours, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it,” Taylor added. “This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”

Now, the music video is out. Described as “a sultry sleepless 70’s fever dream”, Taylor said it helped her conceptualise the world and mood of Midnights. Check it out below!
