Mountain Mayhem: The Downhill Disco

Aspen Art Museum refashioned its winter benefit this year, introducing a dazzling event at the Rooftop Café over the holidays.

The Downhill Disco took place on Thursday, Dec. 29, from 6-9 p.m., drawing 300-plus guests who came decked out in ‘70s-themed attire from sequins to satin. All arrived to the ground floor of the museum to check in, with the option to ascend to the third floor reception via the glass elevator or open-air staircase.

Illuminated in a wash of purple and hot-pink hues, the rooftop’s transformation into a dance club immediately set the tone for a fun, festive affair. The music was poppin’, as were bottles of champagne to complement the caviar bar, passed apps, and dessert station. DJ Pamela Tick played disco faves and upbeat dance tracks, while Ariana “Air” Gradow performed, dressed like a disco globe, twirling on a crescent moon-shaped swing. 

Event co-chairs Alexander Hankin, Suzanna Lee, and Makenzie Moon Phelan served as hosts. Part way through the party, Hankin welcomed all with a brief speech, speaking to the educational and curatorial initiatives of the Aspen Art Museum directly benefited by the event.

Woody Creek Distillers and LALO Tequila provided cocktails, Deborah and Daniel Glass underwrote the entertainment, and Prada, CULTURED, and Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International Realty served as sponsors.

Ticket sales, sponsorships, and a trio of silent auction packages — A Day with Prada in Milan, An Exclusive Trip to Desert X, and A Perfect Art Day in NYC — all contributed to the success of the event.
