I first noticed July Discuss in Prague throughout their 2015 European tour. I had simply arrived within the metropolis, so I got down to uncover how of us within the Czech Republic rocked and rolled. I stumbled upon a venue referred to as The Roxy (it sounded so West Hollywood). So, down the rabbit gap, I went. July Discuss, a Canadian indie-rock band headlined. Not accustomed to this comparatively new band, I didn’t know what to anticipate. I found a five-piece band whose music vacillated between darkish, thunderous gothic alt-rock and extra modern, breezy gentle pop. The music paired completely with the host metropolis’s medieval, gothic structure and post-Soviet optimism.
July Discuss’s expertly crafted music and stage present embraced life’s contradictions. Their present felt like a push and pull between love and hate, darkish and light-weight, good and evil. Peter Dreimanis’ raspy, gothic rock voice spewed from the pillars of hell. In distinction, Leah Fay’s harmless, wispy, saccharin-pop vocals conjured the sweetness to Dreimanis’ beast. The lead vocalists artistically performed out life’s imbalances in songs like “Weapons + Ammunition” and “Summer time Costume.” On stage, Dreimanis and Fay carried out the songs with the sexual stress of a seedy motel room. The chaos and seduction of their stage efficiency gave their music a novel creative depth and introduced it to life.
Quick-forward seven years and July Discuss is coming to The City Lounge on Nov. 29, 2022, and I can’t wait to see them once more. July Discuss’s avant-garde alt-rock/indie pop music is each hypnotic and catchy. In live performance, they bring about the songs to life like a rock opera. Don’t miss a possibility to see this multi-award-winning quintet from north of the border. It’s your likelihood to journey down your individual rock ‘n’ roll rabbit gap.
Austin-based Darkbird opens the present with their disco-pop new wave revival. Their 2021 single “Heartbeat” is a Blondie-styled retro dance quantity that’ll get you within the groove.
