G-Nome Project Enters A World Of "Pure Imagination" With 'Willy Wonka' G-Mix [Listen]

G-Nome Project, Israel’s premier psytrance quartet, has released a new version of the beloved song “Pure Imagination” from the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The band’s reinterpretation, cleverly dubbed a “G-Mix,” incorporates Shpongle-style production elements and influences from techno, funk, and beyond. The single serves as the first taste of the band’s debut studio album, Mouse Kingdom, which is set for release in 2023.

“Pure Imagination” has become a staple in G-Nome Project’s live repertoire and a favorite among fans. It was most recently performed for a sold-out crowd at Silk City in Philadelphia in November. The familiar tune inspires a sense of nostalgia while invigorating the dance floor with its seamless blend of expressive rock melodies, deep grooves, and the band’s signature Grilled Cheese Funk, an amalgam of trance, synth leads, drum beats, and funk guitar.

“More often than not, when fans come over to me before a show and request a song they want us to perform, it’s ‘Pure Imagination’,” explained bassist Zecheriah Reich.

“The track is like a journey from darkness to light. There are legit eerie moments in the music, but then they give way to moments of triumph and joy. We’re excited to finally share it,” added guitarist Yakir Hyman.

Produced and mixed by Eyal Salomon (executive producer: Shua Seif), the track is the first of several singles to be released in 2023. It is also the first G-Mix to be given a studio treatment. Previous live G-Mixes have included the themes from Sesame Street and Game of Thrones, as well as an aggressive version of AC/DC‘s “Thunderstruck”.

The release of “Pure Imagination” marks the start of an exciting year for G-Nome Project. The band is gearing up for a series of live appearances that will include a highly-anticipated performance at Summer Camp Music Festival in May.
